Movies, Clubbing, Suntanning...

Went out with Deardear and his friends on last Saturday for dinner at Heeren Village... After that, we went to catch a movie at Cineleisure. Hmmm... What movie did we watch?? Oh yah, we watched 'Hot Fuzz' - a funny but super lame show. Actually I think the storyline is kinda ridiculous and dumb!

Deardear and I watched 'Nancy Drew' yesterday night, it was very much better and worth the money to watch compared to 'Hot Fuzz'. At least there's more logic to it!! Furthermore, the cast looks more soothing to the eyes!! Deardear told me that the main female actress is Julia Roberts' niece... I think she's pretty and looks abit like Avril Lavigne. There's also a cute guy in the movie!!! Kekeke... His name is Max Thieriot (refer to photo below). The other actress I like is Rachael Leigh Cook... I remember her coz she acted in 'She's All That' during my poly days. The movie is nice!

Anyway, after the movie on Saturday night, Dear and I joined Fang and Eileen at St. James to club!! Didn't stay there for too long coz Eileen left earlier... And we intended to go to the beach on the next day. The 3 of us left around 2plus midnight and went to Tong Shui Cafe at River Valley for supper. The food they have are quite similar to those from Hong Kong Cafe.

So according to plan, we went to Sentosa on Sunday! The weather was not very good... it rained for awhile in the afternoon... but after that the sun was good!! Too bad Dear had to leave earlier for work on that day. Oh yah, there were 10 of us that day... It has been quite some time since we have so many people going to the beach together!! Bernard must be happy to have a group of people going to the beach with him again! Ahahaa!! But not everyone stayed till the sun went down...

Around 6plus, we went to shower and proceeded to Wine to look for Dear... and to try their BBQ food! The BBQ chicken was nice, however not very filling coz the portion was quite small... We ordered the as usuals too! After eating, I felt really tired and sleepy, so we left and went home around 9plus... By the time I reached home it was 10pm, I changed and fell asleep immediately...

Does No Relevant Working Experience = No Job Offer??

Just when I am feeling really desperate for a job, I took my courage to call up the companies which I have went to for interviews 2 weeks ago, to ask if the position that I have applied for has been filled.

Actually, all along I was told by my mother and brother to give a follow-up call about 1 week to the companies after the job interview so as to show my interest for the job. But I was always afriad to do so bcoz I felt that it is so embarassing to be so thick-skin and call up the company when obviously, they did not call me means they did not shortlist me.

Now that I have tried giving the companies a follow-up call, I realized that it wasn't that difficult and embarassing as what I previously thought. Instead, I felt proud of myself for doing it bcoz at least I know whether they have shortlisted someone, whether the position is filled or still open, or even why I was not shortlisted... so that I know if it is time to give up my wait for that particular position which I was wishing for... although it does not feel good to know that the position I like has been taken...

I am currently quite disappointed that one of the position which I was hoping for has been filled by someone else through their staff referral... Sigh... After calling up a few companies, I found out the main reason why I was not selected for the positions!! It is always bcoz they have found someone who has more experiences than me!! This is so irritating!!! Coz although employers always say that they do not mind to train fresh grads or someone with no experience though candidates with relevant experiences would be preferred, in the end they always select the people with experiences!!! In the first place, why give the fresh grads or candidates without experience false hope???!

After going to so many interviews but not being selected due to my lack of experience, I cannot help but to conclude that people without relevant experiences would never be able to gain the relevant experience bcoz they are not even given the opportunity to pick up the relevant skills, right??? In other words, as long as there are candidates with experiences competing with candidates without experience, candidates without experience will never stand a chance to get into the job they want even with their interest and willingness to learn! So eventhough employers may emphasize that having the right attitude is essential if you do not have the experience, I think this factor seems to be totally forgotten and ignored no matter how good the candidate's attitude and qualities are once they get to interview someone else with relevant experiences... Bcoz in the eyes of the employers, relevant experiences beat all other qualities!

Once again, I feel that I have wasted my time attending all the previous interviews!!! Many people think that the current job market is very good! That's just what they see on the surface... the actual fact is that the job market is good for employers and people with experiences, but not for fresh grads and people like me... bcoz with so many job candidates with and without experiences competing with one another, employers are at the advantage to choose the best candidate for themselves!

Frankly speaking, I sometimes feel kinda paiseh for blogging about my job search process and interview experiences here, bcoz I know some of my friends read my blog and they know that I have been jobless for so long... This is definitely not something to be proud about, but I still blog about it bcoz these are things which I cannot say during the interview!!!

And if you realized, I have not been blogging alot about myself recently... this is bcoz there's nothing much to blog about and nothing interesting happening recently... My current lifestyle is all about applying jobs, going for interviews and waiting for results... Besides this, I will go out with Deardear and friends over the weekends... That's about it... so... I am just living a super boring life now... Other than that, I can only say that I really need a job!!!!!! (And I know that I have been saying this since very long ago until now I am still saying it! =P)

The 18th Golden Melody Awards

Yeah!!! Congrats To Princess JOLIN!!! Hehee!! =D

The followings are the awards presented to Princess Jolin during the 18th Golden Melody Awards Ceremony held yesterday (16 June 2007)!!!

Upon the arrival of Jolin on 星光大道 red carpet, she was awarded with 金曲答铃歌手奖. (Sorry, the video clip has been removed and I did not manage to find a similar clip to replace it... Sigh...)

Opening ceremony with Jolin's 'Dance in the Ring of Fire' performance!! It wasn't what I expected though... According to what I heard on the media, I thought that she was going to jump thru some fire ring or what... But nevermind, the performance was still nice!

A Funny Thai Commercial - Smooth E Babyface Foam

Met up with Fang on Monday night for dinner and happened to mention to her about this thai commercial that is quite funny. The product brand is called 'Smooth E'... That's why whenever I see the word 'smoothie' on food menu, it reminds me of this commercial! Anyway, since not many of my friends are aware of this commercial, I have decided to put it up here. There are 4 parts to it... Enjoy!

I Hate Group Interviews!!!

I have attended 7 interviews last week... 5 of them were marketing related, 1 was a recruiter post and 1 was a total waste of time!!

Why a waste of time?? Bcoz it took me 2 hours for the interview, a group interview somemore... and it turned out to be a sales job! Hate this kind of interview coz I feel like I was being conned to the interview. In fact, I have experienced this type of interview method before previously, and the companies were located at the same area - Tanjong Pagar Road. Actually I had this fear that it might turned out to be the same as the one I have previously attended even before I went for the interview... And I kept telling myself that it would be an one-to-one interview like any other job interviews so as not to put aeroplane for the interview appointment, but when I arrived and was walking up the stairs to the company, I already felt that something was wrong!!

I heard the sound of television, which was exactly the same thing I experienced the last time when I went for that group interview. When I reached the second storey, there were 2 people sitting behind a desk welcoming me and they offered me an application form to fill up. In front of them, there were already 6 people sitting on the sofa watching 'Friends' while waiting for the interview! I knew that I was 'conned' to the interview again this time!! Immediately, I knew it was going to be a group interview bcoz there were so many people waiting and how can that be possible if it's an one-to-one interview... I felt like leaving yet I don't know how to... I had no choice but stayed throughout the group interview!!

The group interview started with a topic for us to brainstorm, and then we were being interviewed one by one based on the things we wrote on our application form and had to answer to the questions asked by the interviewer. After that, he went on with a small lecture on marketing and sales... Then to the Q&A session. Never did I expect it to last 2 whole hours!!! Wasted my time manz!!! I was 1 hour late for my KBox Buffet appointment with Vanessa that day!!!
